National Renewable Portfolio Standard (NRPS). Sound like Greek? While it is quite a mouthful, it’s another one of the ways the up-and-coming Democratic Congress is planning to help boost the use of cleaner, alternative technologies. Legislation like the
NRPS requires utilities to generate a certain percentage of electricity from renewable sources such as solar, wind and geothermal. As it stands now, less than 3 percent of the United State’s electricity comes from such sources.
