Invest in the Future

Friday December 22, 2006
Sun Equity. Has a nice ring, doesn’t it? It’s actually the name of our neighbor and friend’s construction business. Although it’s still rare to see solar panels in our part of the country (rural Pennsylvania), this little company is a great example of a progressive business poised for the future. And that’s certainly where alternative energy advocates say we’re headed—whether it’s ethanol, wind power or hydrogen, the up-and-coming Democratic Congress in the United States has plans to help smart, forward-thinking businesses.

And if you’re into investing, those are the businesses to watch. If the National Renewable Portfolio Standard and an extension of federal tax credits become a reality, companies such as SunPower, Cypress Semiconductor and Zoltek may just get the extra support they need to compete with traditional energy sources. And with California leading the way with an enthusiastic pro-environment governor, we may all be on the verge of big changes. Maybe it’s time to double-check your investment portfolio.
