Brrrr . . . Time for Bioheat
Wednesday January 3, 2007
Get out the red woollies. January is here, and even though it’s officially been winter for two weeks, here in the mid-Atlantic it's finally beginnning to feel like old man winter is here to stay. And that means it’s time for Bioheat. Not only an alternative fuel for diesel vehicles, biodiesel is becoming increasingly popular as a supplement to home heating oil.
According to the Northeast Regional Biomass Program, Bioheat (biodiesel blended with regular diesel fuel), is the best near-term market for biodiesel in the Northeast. These states have cornered 70 percent of the 7 billion gallon heating oil market in the United States, and the possibilities are tremendous—especially considering there are nearly 7,000 heating oil dealers, many of which are interested in Bioheat since it reduces dependency on foreign oil, is eco-friendlier and can be used in existing equipment.
Wondering where you can get Bioheat in your area? Check out this handy list from the National Biodiesel Board.
