Ethanol - The Race is On

The IndyCar Series has committed to using 100 percent ethanol starting with the March 24th race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. Yes, that’s the same ethanol that’s in E85, and it’s 100 percent renewable fuel replacing the methanol that's been fueling the cars since the 1960s. With its clear environmental and safety advantages, this switch is a boon to the ethanol industry that is on target to produce approximately 7 billion gallons in 2007.

Any chance you’ve been thinking about using E85 or buying an FFV so you can start using this alternative fuel too? While IndyCar high performance racing engines are engineered to run on 100 percent ethanol, you can choose from an array of flex-fuel vehicles that will burn E85. Because of the varying conditions in which a passenger car operates, the 15 percent gasoline mixture in E85 is optimal for street usage. Any which way you burn it, ethanol substantially cuts carbon dioxide emissions , the greenhouse gas attributed to global warming—and that’s guaranteed to get the checkered flag.
