An Aggressive Alternative Fuel Stance

Wednesday March 14, 2007
Go ahead--play some alt fuel jeopardy with us.

Let's identify which major manufacturer can tout the following credits:
  • They openly recognize that climate change and petroleum consumption are important national issues.

  • They have produced more than 1.5 million flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs) and are ready to make half their 2012 production into FFVs or biofueled vehicles.

  • They are the world's leader in fuel cell production with over 100 current vehicles in service.

  • They are committed to the development and production of vehicles that meet the growing concerns of climate change and petroleum depletion.

  • They support the raising of CAFE standards.
Sound too good to be true?

Well...if you answered What is DaimlerChrysler? you win. These are just a few of the points in Chrysler Group President and Chief Executive Tom LaSorda' s message today to the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality. That's good news when we're looking for reductions in greenhouse gases and energy consumption and an increase in the use of alternative fuels. And yes, we know that Daimler has been looking to sell its stake in Chrysler, and if that happens, we certainly hope that the new partner keeps this bold commitment.

Go, DaimlerChrysler, go! We're ready for you to roll 'em on out.
