Don't you have to plug it in?

Saturday May 26, 2007
Yes, that's the most frequent question--and misconception--we're hearing about hybrids these days. After test driving the new Saturn Aura Green Line last week (watch for our review soon), and currently being behind the wheel of the Nissan Altima Hybrid, we're seriously considering putting a sign in the back window: "It's a hybrid--and no, you don't have to plug it in." Now, don't get us wrong, we love the idea of hybrid plug-ins--it's just that it's going to be a while til you can go and buy one. What to do til then? Go alternative. Go for a diesel that can run biodiesel, a flex-fuel that can run E85, or the Honda GX that can use natural gas. Or a fuel-sippin' hybrid. But those electrics are definitely up-and-coming.

Thanks to a reader who recently sent us some youtube links on hybrids and electric cars. Did you know Tom Hanks has gone alternative? Have you seen this test drive of the hot all-electric Tesla roadster? Or how about converting your regular ole gasoline burner to a pure electric-quiet mobile? Gotta love all you pioneers out there--doin' the alt fuel thing and youtubin' it. Now there's somethin' to celebrate on this Memorial Day weekend, America.
