Hydrogen is Coming

Tuesday May 29, 2007
Records are being set as we live and breathe. For the first time in history, an electrically-driven fuel cell vehicle traveled 300 miles on one tank of hydrogen. Hey, all you New Yorkers--did any of you happen to see this zero-emissions Chevy Sequel zooming down the road recently? This set of wheels is the first vehicle in the world to successfully integrate a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system with a handful of other advanced technologies in a lightweight aluminum structure. Its only byproduct? Water vapor.

Engineers at the General Motors' Fuel Cell Activity Center in Honeoye Falls have developed this technology that will help to bring hydrogen into real-world usage. GM also plans on bringing a fleet of more than 100 Equinox fuel cell vehicles to the greater metro NY area as part of "Project Driveway" this fall.

So even if you can't be one of those demo drivers, check out what's available here-and-now. Go ahead and check if your current vehicle is E85 compatible, grab a fuel-efficient diesel that can use biodiesel, or consider zippin' around town in the Honda GX or one of these fuel-efficient hybrids. Stay tuned for more on hydrogen and fuel cell development--it's got the future written all over it.
