Will Florida slash CO2?
Friday July 13, 2007
Sounds like the sunshine state doesn't want to get any warmer. Warmer from greenhouse gas emissions that is. In the midst of a climate change summit in Miami this week, Florida Governor Charlie Crist is expected to take action that would add his state to the growing list of states that limit greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.Today is the day that his agenda holds a series of draft orders that would have Florida adopting California-style standards which call for a 30 percent cut in emissions, mainly carbon dioxide in the next 9 years - 2016. All in the name of global warming.
Since the burning of fossil fuels releases CO2, its levels have continued to rise with the continual addition of more and more vehicles on roads worldwide. And research has found that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have been rising steadily - and at a swifter pace than any other period documented over the last 60 million years. Find out what you can do to lessen your own contribution to global warming even if you don't live in Florida or California. Yes, it looks like states are stepping up to the punch faster than the federal government - what say you? Do you think states should regulate vehicle pollutants? Do you think it will sway auto manufacturers in providing better, cleaner transportation choices?
