The Detroit News Auto Insider reports that General Motors is turning up the heat on the development of their electric and hybrid vehicles. And it's all in the name of getting them to the public faster. Much like Chrysler LLC formed ENVI in September with similar goals, GM now has a new engineering team that will focus specifically on the further technological developments of hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles. With this 400 person team working on advanced propulsion and meeting the new European carbon dioxide emissions, GM seems to be serious about accelerating their programs and production for these vehicles - and namely, the much bally-hooed Chevy Volt.
What say you? Do ya think they'll make it? And would you even be interested buying a Volt if they're here in 2010?

I think they’ll make it — they certainly have experience with electric drive, thanks to the EV1 and their current crop of fuel-cell cars. — Aaron
Yeah Aaron–agreed here at Hybrid Cars and Alt Fuels. The EV1 still tugs at our heartstrings, but GM’s E-flex program looks very promising.
