Hypermiling with a FAS
Monday January 28, 2008
So last week we posted an article about hypermiling--the never ending quest to squeeze out just one more tenth of a mile per gallon on the way to work, or to go an extra few days without needing a fill-up. Well, that one stoked up the ole fire.
Folks are diggin it, and wantin' to know more, so we have a series planned to cover a little more depth about about each of the individual techniques that comprise hypermiling. This week's first in-depth hypermiling article covers Forced Auto Stop (FAS). It's our favorite "bang for the buck" trick for squeezin' mileage out of every trip we take. Scott has quite a bit of frugal stubborness coursing through his veins, and will push the envelope quite a bit, but even he won't embrace what some of the "extreme hypermilers" do. Give Hypermiling with a FAS a read, then maybe give it a try. See if FAS fits in with your driving style.

The FAS is one of the best hypermiling techniques in my opinion - right up there with the pulse and glide. If people use these techniques in a hybrid, the potential increase in mpg is pretty impressive.
