Get Your Air Compressors Ready
Wednesday January 30, 2008
So the other day Christine picks up the February issue of Popular Mechanics - not her usual read - but happened to flip it open to a (serendipitous, perhaps?) news brief about a fuel cell powered inflatable car that's in the works. Yes, you read that correctly: inflatable. Seems that XP Vehicles has a crew of top minds developing and creating a whole new kind of alt fuel vehicle - one that can be delivered in two boxes and assembled by two average adults. Unpack, assemble, inflate and drive. It uses a super-durable baffled pressure tube system that is based on the success of NASA's Mars mission with ultra-sensitive electronics. Target price: less than $10K. Think light-weight with a 300-mile range and safe. And yes, even a selection of models that are cool to drive.
Sound far-fetched? Yeah, it is. A bit quirky? Definitely. But isn't that how the very best of the best ideas have emerged over time? Think Nikola Tesla and alternating electric current. Think Albert Einstein and the theory of relativity. Or Michael Faraday and electromagnetic induction. Great minds working on solutions to everyday questions.
So, we know you're wondering about these XP Vehicles - we were too. Take a gander at the XP FAQ page to get the latest scoop. Thanks to all the great minds and mavericks working to bring new meaning to alt fuel and hybrid vehicles. And we'll let you know when they're closer to hittin' the roads.
