Alternative Fuels at the Oscars
Saturday February 23, 2008
Check out where alternative fuels are showing up now: the 80th Annual Academy Awards. Yes, it's the in thing to be green and famous. Take Cameron Diaz, for example. She's using BMW's Hydrogen 7 as her ride to the ceremony. The BMW H7's claim to fame: it's the first hydrogen-powered sedan that offers BMW's notorious 7-series level of luxury--and it emits only water vapor as exhaust. And that's not all--according to a press release from oscars.org, all the generators used for production, press support and for the red carpet arrivals are being powered by a biodiesel blend. Plus, General Motors has provided staff and presenters with gas-electric hybrids and hydrogen-powered cars (must be that Equinox--like Scott drove earlier this year). Yep, seems like alt fuels and hybrids are a big part of the greening of the Oscars ... in addition to using renewable wind power, biodegradable and compost-able food services, and recycled paper content for the invitations and programs, the Academy Awards are setting a good example of what we ordinary folk can do to lessen our life's impact on the planet.
And if you tune in, let us know if you happen to catch a glimpse of those hybrids and alt fuelers around the festivities.
