Go on a Hybrid Safari
Monday April 7, 2008
Next time you're up for the ultimate adventure, you've now got the option to go for an ecotour with Natural Habitat Adventures--and know that you're traveling a little lighter on the planet. While most safari vehicles are known for their beefy suspension and powerful custom features, they aren't known for their good fuel economy. Enter the new and improved safari vehicle that Natural Habitat Adventures will begin using on their tours in May. Yep, it's a hybrid. Having started with a four-wheel drive Toyota Highlander, the company has retrofitted it with a sliding canvas top roof and specialized flip-up photography windows and suspension to handle the demands of a safari trip. The good news is that this vehicle is anticipated to get approximately 25 mpg--which is double what comparable vehicles of this class usually get, according to a press release from the company. Dubbed the Hybrid Safari One, this hybrid ride will debut on their “Canyons & Beyond” expedition next month. Scott and I don't have plans to go on a safari anytime in the near future, but this sure sounds cool. Hey readers, let us know if any of you take this trip--and how the Hybrid Safari One rates. --Christine
