Honda Puts a Price on the Insight
Wednesday March 11, 2009
Honda has finally announced pricing for its much anticipated "Prius killing" 2010 Insight. With a base price of $20,470, Honda expects to sell 90,000 units of this redesigned hybrid in the first year after its March 24, 2009 public release. Wow—that is a great price for a hybrid, and those certainly seem like attainable sales figures. Last year, Honda sold about 31,000 Civic Hybrids versus Toyota's 160,000 Prius models. According to Automotive News, Honda's Chris Martin says, "There is strong demand for a hybrid in this price segment." Fair enough. But what about Toyota? They know what Honda is up to and they haven't exactly been "sitting on their hands." Expect Toyota to fire back with a probably pricier, but much-improved 2010 Prius in late spring 2009.Oh, this little hybrid war is going to be fun to watch. Will price win? Will reputation win? Will value win? Let the games begin.
