Enviro-meter
We ordinarily compare a hybrid car to its non-hybrid version. But for this comparison (since there is no Lexus non-hybrid version available), we used similar class and performance comparisons from major European manufacturers, the Mercedes S600 V-12 and the BMW 760Li V-12.
Here's how the 2008 Lexus LS 600h Ls environmental impact tallies up, according to fueleconomy.gov:
- Petroleum Oil Consumption: 16.3 barrels of crude annuallycompared to 24.5 barrels for the Mercedes and 22.8 for the BMW.
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 8.7 tons/year, where the S600 will total 13.1 tons/year and the 760Li, 12.2 (driving an average of 15,000 miles per year).
- EPA Air Pollution Score: on a scale of 1 to 10 (best), scores in at an 8 compared to 6s for the other two.
