First unveiled in the 2008 Tahoe, GM's 2-mode hybrid system is now improving the fuel efficiency in this fullsize pickup. EPA fuel economy: 21 mpg city/22 mpg highway 2WD and 20/20 4WD, the Silverado offers a 25-percent overall increase in economy. Having driven both the 2008 Yukon Hybrid and the 2008 Tahoe Hybrid, we are looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this latest 2-mode. In the meantime, here's a preview:

  • 6.0-liter V-8 with Active Fuel Management and Auto Stop mode combined with GM's two-mode hybrid system.

  • Regenerative braking recaptures energy when coasting or braking, stored in the battery pack (located below the rear seat).

  • 6,100-pound (2,767 kg) towing capacity with a 26-gallon fuel tank that offers 500-mile range (2WD) and 470 mile-range (4WD).

  • Quieter due to new exhaust system, engine intake induction tuning, low-rolling resistance tires, electrically-driven 42-volt power steering and quieter cooling system internal fan.

  • Base price: $39,000
