Yes, you’re probably aware that diesels typically get 30-35% more miles per gallon than comparable gasoline vehicles. Plus, advances in diesel technology have improved performance, reduced engine noise and that unpleasant fuel odor, and drastically reduced emissions.
A disappointing bit of news is that Volkswagen will not be sending its highly popular diesel versions of the Jetta, Golf and Beetle to the U.S. for the 2007 model year. Gone is the venerable1.9 L TDI engine with Pumpe Düse technology. Unable to tweak these engines enough to meet the the strict 2007 emissions standards adopted by the United States, VW will re-engineer for the 2008 model year.
Rest assured, all is not lost. Volkswagen will still offer the V10 TDI Touareg SUV for 2007 and we expect the redesigned 2008 2.0 L diesels based on the popular Common rail technology to keep Volkwagen’s loyal diesel buyers happy for years to come.
