Honda employs a unique dual scroll system for the Accord's climate control system. The A/C compressor is a two part unit consisting of an engine belt driven scroll pump in front and a smaller electric motor driven pump in the rear. When the engine shuts down in Auto Stop mode, the smaller rear pump continues to run on power supplied by the hybrid battery. When the engine restarts, the front belt driven pump takes over. And, under high load conditions, both pumps can and do work simultaneously.
