Here the green bar gauge shows battery charging conditions. Under deceleration and braking, the IMA system converts what would be lost energy from friction brakes into usable electricity that flows back to the hybrid battery pack to keep it charged. In situations where heavy use of the battery for motor assist exists, the engine can also power the electric motor as a generator for battery charging. All of the various states are completely and automatically controlled by the hybrid computer.
