Combined with Active Fuel Management, General Motors’ 2008 two-mode hybrid is expected to give 25-percent fuel efficiency improvement. This system utilizes two ECVT (electronically continuously variable transmission) modes. It allows for the use of smaller hybrid electric drive motors and optimizes efficiency at both high and low speeds.
