The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle is powered by a fuel cell that generates electricity to drive the vehicle's traction motor--as well as charge the nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Hydrogen, in lieu of petroleum, is stored onboard in high pressure tanks and the battery pack provides start-up power and additional torque boost.
