2-7-08: 2008 Altima Hybrid Update & Log

Thursday February 7, 2008
So how's the hybrid been treatin' us? Here's our periodic update that follows our review of the '08 Nissan Altima Hybrid test drive and review (with photos), in which we shared our purchase of our first-ever new hybrid in November 2007. I picked up Click & Clack's Car Talk Road Trip & Maintenance Log Journal to keep all the Altima notes in one neat and tidy place - not to mention enjoyin' a laugh or two from their lighthearted comments.

Mileage: 2210

Fuel economy: 34.8 mpg average - city and country roads. The longest trip we took in the past several weeks was to Camden, NJ (to Adventure Aquarium - cool place, BTW) and got a strong and easy 35 mph highway.

Weather conditions: Since my last fill-up, it's been in the 30's with an occasional warm day, like yesterday's unusual 60F. We've had a few in the 20's though too - and that's when it takes longer for the hybrid system to come up to normal operating temperature. That means less EV (electric vehicle) mode in city driving too. My driving style: Although I've gone light on the accelerator, I'm not employing any serious hypermiling techniques - just regular ole motorin' - but really not heavy on the pedal.

Maintenance/Repairs: It's been an easy, carefree ride so far. We've got another 1,000 miles before we're due for an oil change. We have the tires inflated to 40 psi to maximize fuel mileage, and have checked the oil twice and refilled the windshield washer fluid once.

All in all, it's been smooth sailing - still love everything about this car as much as I in did in my post-test drive dreams. --Christine
